Dornier
Do17

The Dornier Do17 was originally developed at a transport aircraft that had it's roll turned into a bomber. In the early days the aircraft earned the nick name of 'The Flying Pencil' due to its long slender shape. With the advent of the Do17Z the slender shape was distorted by a completely new front end with increased window area and enlarged cabin

This overcame some of the poor defensive issues that had dogged the aircraft during the Spanish Civil War. This war proved a vital 'testing ground' for the tougher battles to come. The modifications made an impact on the performance and so the DB600 liquid cooled engines had to be replaced by more powerful Bramo Fafnir 323P engines
