Dr Heinkel came to notoriety in the first world war when he was chief designer at
Hansa-Brandenburgische Flugzeugwerke making sea planes

The He111 first saw the light of day in 1935 as a camouflaged civil transporter. It performed a number of roles including bomber, glider tug, torpedo carrier and general transport aircraft
